Overview
On 12 September 2025, Trauma Rescue Aid (TRAID) we distributed 300 bags of maize flour and 5 boxes of sanitary pads in our refugee support center in Seeta, Mukono, Uganda. The distribution aimed to provide needed food support and sanitary items to refugee families, young women and teenage girls, many of whom have fled ongoing conflict and instability in Sudan. This effort was made possible through donations to our GoFundMe campaign and the unwavering support of TRAID’s supporters.
The items purchased
We purchased 300 bags of maize flour and 5 boxes of sanitary pads.
Organization of the Distribution
The distribution process was divided into two categories:
First-time recipients. Families or individuals receiving food support for the first time.
Repeat recipients. Families or individuals who had previously received food support.
Two separate registration tables were set up to simplify the process and to maintain clear records.
First-time recipients: 119 families/individuals
Repeat recipients: 111 families/individuals
In total, 235 families/individuals received food support,
Unfortunately, 87 people did not receive food due to increased number of refugees from our previous registration of 400 household/families to now 322 families, also our visibility is becoming wider and the food supplies not being enough to cover all the families. It is important to note that the actual number of those left out is likely higher, as not all were registered or documented during the exercise.
Items Distributed
Food packages (flour 400 bags) were distributed to 400household/families.
sanitary pads (5 boxes of sanitary pads) were distributed to120 girls. The supply was also not enough, and many women and girls missed out.
Achievements
Successfully reached 235 families/individuals received food support.
Successfully reached 120 girls received sanitary pads
322 families were registered for the distribution.
Challenges
Food and sanitary pads were not enough to meet the demand as the number of families has increased compared to our previous record.
87 families left without food support and Sanitary pads also not enough, leaving many women and girls missed out.
The number of refugees seeking support continues to increase because UNHCR and NRC no longer give them food support.
Testimonies from the Women
Maklina Kamal Angalo (South Kordofan refugee)
“Since I came to Uganda 5 months ago, it is only TRAID that has been able to provide me with food packages. I registered as a refugee but have never received any food or nonfood items from UNHCR. God bless you TRAID and continue to help.”
Sarah Sharab Lima (Sudan refugee).
“All I want to say is thank you Trauma Rescue Team for not giving up on us. The food we used to receive from the UN is no more, but TRAID, you are doing your best despite the challenges. Every time you call us for food support, our hope is restored. We pray God opens more doors for you.”
Rejoice Farida Alamin.

“I am so grateful this afternoon for receiving this food from Trauma Rescue Aid. This flour will feed us at least for a month. We wanted more, but I will say may God keep multiplying the works of your hands so that you can reach and support more people.”
Testimony from Dr. Yosra, TRAID Counselor:
“For many months, NRC used to bring sanitary pads to the young women in the refugee community, distributing them every month. But they have stopped for the past seven months. Every day, families call me asking if TRAID can help provide pads. Mothers are struggling to manage their daughters’ needs, and some teenage girls are even forced to use pieces of cloth during their periods. The situation is very difficult, and the need for menstrual hygiene support is urgent.”
Appreciation
From the TRAID team on the ground we want to extend our sincere thanks to all our supporters who contributed through GoFundMe and other donations. Your generosity makes it possible for us to reach these vulnerable families who often have no one else to support them.
Call for Continued Support
The need remains greater. Hundreds of families still go without food, and women and children continue to face hunger and hardship daily. With your support, we can expand distributions and ensure that no family is turned away.
We encourage all who are able to contribute through our ongoing GoFundMe campaign and to share our stories. Together, we can continue to stand with refugees and restore hope in the lives of these vulnerable refugee families
