October 2025 Humanitarian Update

By Trauma Rescue Aid (TRAID)
Supporting vulnerable Sudanese refugee families

October 2025 was a demanding month for displaced communities. Rising food insecurity, limited income opportunities, and ongoing displacement continued to place pressure on families already living with uncertainty. Vulnerable Sudanese refugee families, particularly households led by women, faced some of the greatest challenges in meeting daily food and hygiene needs.

Throughout the month, TRAID focused on providing practical, dignity-centered support while documenting gaps to guide future response.

Key Activity: Food Distribution for Vulnerable Families

The main activities in October was a food distribution targeting vulnerable Sudanese refugee families in Uganda.

The distribution took place on 22 October 2025 and aimed to support households struggling to meet basic needs.

100 families received full food assistance packages

104 additional families arrived after supplies were exhausted, highlighting the scale of unmet need

Despite limited food supplies, TRAID ensured that families who missed out on food items received sanitary pads, recognizing the urgent menstrual hygiene needs of girls and women.

What Was Provided

Each food assistance package included:

Maize flour

Baking flour

Cooking oil

Washing soap

Sanitary pads

These items were selected to support both nutrition and dignity within the household.

Who Was Reached

During October, TRAID supported:

100 vulnerable Sudanese refugee families with food and hygiene items

Women and girls, including those from households led by women who received sanitary pads even when food packages were unavailable

Many of the families supported were caring for children with limited or no income sources.

Community Feedback and Observations

Following the distribution, families who had not received food returned to request sanitary pads. Many explained that financial constraints made it impossible to regularly purchase menstrual supplies for their daughters.

These interactions reinforced the importance of integrating hygiene and protection considerations into food assistance activities.

Challenges This Month

The most significant challenge in October was the gap between available resources and the high number of families in need. Turnout exceeded expectations, clearly showing that food insecurity among Sudanese refugee households remains severe.

Lessons and Priorities Going Forward

Based on October’s activities, TRAID identified the following priorities:

Increase food package quantities to reach more families

Mobilize additional funding and donations

Maintain sanitary pads as a standard part of assistance

Introducing pre-registration to improve planning and fairness

Looking Ahead

In the coming months, TRAID will continue to support vulnerable Sudanese refugee families, with particular attention to households led by women. Lessons from October will guide improved targeting, coordination, and resource mobilization.
